Explaination of Approximate Dates
Unfortunately, Frederic Riker didn't provide very many dates in Riker of the Seven Seas. However, he did give a few details that helped me establish a Timeline.
The most important detail is that Riker first arrived in England on the day of a king's coronation, but the ceremony was postponed due to the prince's illness (Map Point 2). When he returns to England later, Riker makes it just in time for the new coronation day. Now, since the Book was published in 1933, there are only a couple of British Kings that Riker could have been writing about. Of those two, only one of them had a coronation that was postponed due to illness, King Edward VII.
     Edward's coronation was postponed from June 26, 1902, until August 9, 1902.
So, working backwards:
- Riker set foot in England in June 1902
- Before that he took a 42-day journey across the Atlantic from his home in New England
- When he left home, Riker says that he was 17 years old
Conclusion: Since Riker was 17 or 18 (he could have turned 18 during the journey) in 1902, he must have been born somtime around 1885/late 1884.
